Day 1: The Summer Camp for the Confucius Institute of Goldsmith Dance and Performance, London University

On July 8, 2019, the 2019 "Confucius Institute of Goldsmith Smith Dance and Performance, London University, UK Summer Camp" officially opened! This Summer Camp is cohosted by the Confucius Institute Headquarters, Jiangsu University and Beijing Dance Academy. In order to enable Confucius campers to truly and deeply experience the profoundness of traditional Chinese culture and the rapid development of modern China, Tang Min, the teacher from Language and Cultural Center, Jiangsu University, carefully designed the schedule of the summer camp, including Chinese learning, traditional cultural experience (painting and calligraphy, Peking opera appreciation and experience, Tai Chi Kung Fu, etc.), visiting historical sites and modern city-Shanghai investigation and other activities.

On the first morning, after enjoying a rich breakfast, the students came to the classroom with anticipation and started the first session of Chinese learning. Tang Min, the teacher of Language and Culture Center, has rich teaching experience and tested their Chinese proficiency through Pinyin teaching and then, she taught students according to their aptitude, taking care of each student; she showed the students a variety of sentence patterns, and the students’ participation was high. After the short first lesson, everyone was able to introduce themselves in Chinese, including using long sentences to introduce their interests and hobbies. Finally, the teacher taught the classic song "Tian Mi Mi" on the spot. The progress of the students was very obvious. Under the teacher's instruction, students who were exposed to Chinese for the first time could sing fluently. Everyone's face was filled with a confident and happy smile.

In the afternoon, some students experienced the campus tour of Jiangsu University under the guidance of volunteers, and some took a short break, and then they visited Xijin Ferry and the Yangtze River Boardwalk. The students showed great interest in Chinese culture.
