International students from Malaysia, Nigeria, Russia, Zimbabwe and other countries joined hands with Chinese students to launch a themed activity entitled "Dialogue with Millennium-Old Intangible Cultural Heritage, Exploring the Beauty of Civilization". They visited the Taiping Clay Whistle Experience Hall in Xijindu, Zhenjiang City, Jiangsu Province, to enjoy an immersive experience of the unique charm of this provincial-level intangible cultural heritage item. After gaining a deep understanding of its production techniques and cultural connotations, the students designed a global promotion slogan for it—"A Whistle Blown for a Thousand Years, Peace Prevails Forever", symbolizing its historical inheritance and vitality in the new era. Through close contact and in-depth exploration, Chinese and foreign students not only appreciated the profound heritage of traditional Chinese culture, but also carried out brainstorming sessions to explore the modern value and commercial potential of this millennium-old intangible cultural heritage. This activity injected new vitality into the inheritance and innovation of China’s intangible cultural heritage, demonstrating the boundless charm and broad prospects of traditional Chinese culture.
Jiya, an international student from India, took her creative video "Tang Monk – My Journey to the West" as a carrier, sharing vividly the commonalities between Tang Monk’s pilgrimage for Buddhist scriptures and her own academic pursuit while drawing. With delicate brushstrokes, she depicted the hardships and obstacles of Tang Monk’s westward journey, and combined them with her own study experience to tell the various challenges of chasing dreams in a foreign country. She mentioned that Tang Monk overcame 81 difficulties and finally obtained the true scriptures; similarly, on her path to studying medicine, she also faced numerous challenges in language, culture and academic studies, but she firmly believed that perseverance would help her realize her ideals just like Tang Monk. Jiya also expressed her lofty aspiration to study medicine and heal the wounded and rescue the dying, hoping to bring health and hope to more people through her own efforts.
Mei Qian, an international student from Thailand, cleverly integrated hand-painted peaches with the two Chinese characters "中文 (Chinese)" in her creative video "Painting Chinese with Peaches", demonstrating her unique understanding and love for the Chinese language. Using colorful brushstrokes, she skillfully combined the sweetness of peaches with the charm of Chinese characters, creating a series of creative pictures. In the video, Mei Qian interpreted in depth the rich connotations of "peach" in Chinese history, literature and mythology, ranging from the Peach Blossom Land in The Peach Blossom Spring to the Queen Mother of the West’s Peach Banquet in Journey to the West. With vivid stories and vivid images, she showed the beautiful implied meanings of "peach" in Chinese culture. She also expressed her love for the Chinese language, hoping that Chinese would bloom brilliantly around the world like spring peaches, allowing more people to feel the charm of Chinese and the extensive and profound nature of Chinese culture.
The "International Chinese Language Day" activity originated from the "UN Chinese Language Day". Initiated by China with extensive participation from the international community, it has been successfully held for five consecutive years so far. The 2025 "International Chinese Language Day" is themed "Chinese: A Gift Across Time and Space", aiming to explore the unique charm of Chinese together with Chinese learners and cultural enthusiasts around the world. Since March, the Language and Culture Center of Jiangsu University has held a variety of colorful Chinese Language Day activities on and off campus, fully demonstrating the university’s latest achievements in international Chinese language education and making positive contributions to promoting cultural exchanges and cooperation between China and foreign countries.
